Q: What are the advantages of using a migration solution, such as CalMover, when migrating user and resource accounts from a calendar server?

A: Manual migration, performed by either by the end-users or IT staff, may appear more cost effective on the surface. However, the loss of meetings, tasks, and notes, as well as the non-value-added time spent performing the migration by both IT staff and end-users, make manual migration unproductive and costly. Here are some other advantages to using a migration solution like CalMover.
  • User involvement is not required to move meetings, events, tasks, and notes. This allows the administrator to manage a fast, effective migration schedule independent of users.
  • Users do not need to re-enter their calendar, notes, and task information. Additionally, it preserves historical information as well as future information.
CalMover can analyze your calendar server so that you can better understand the number of active users and resources that need to be migrated and amount of information preserved by CalMover.

Q: Can CalMover be customized to migrate my unique calendar environment?

A: Yes. By creating a migration configuration file, you can define certain parameters to customize the migration. With CalMover, there are also automation scripts that can be customized to your calendar environment.

Q: Does CalMover check for errors during the migration process?

A: Yes. It can also provide the administrator with conversion reports via email.

Q: Can the CalMover migration process be automated?

A: Yes. The automation scripts included with CalMover control the entire migration process. This minimizes the level of resources required for the migration.

Q: What types of requirements are necessary to run CalMover?

A: We recommend using Windows 2000 or Windows NT with a Pentium166 or better processor for optimum performance. It can run on a separate migration server or on the Exchange server. Please see

  • Windows NT Workstation or Server v4.0 or Windows 2000 Professional Server or Advanced Server or Windows 2003.
  • Outlook 2000. (Outlook 2000 SR1 recommended) or Outlook 2003. It is required only for the system(s) running CalMover, not the end-user desktops. 2MB disk space for CalMover installation. (20GB-recommended).
  • 64MB RAM required (256MB RAM recommended).
  • .NET Framework installed

Q: Are links between users and resources preserved with CalMover?

A: Yes. CalMover maintains all linkages between users and resources invited to meetings.
